| THE THIRDS SET LIST The Thirds master set list was constantly being tweaked edited and added to. We rehearsed once a week and added one new song at each rehearsal. We also had two songs 'on deck'. So at any point there were three songs on three burners ready to move into place on the set list. Once a month we had a special rehearsal called 'Black Wednesday' where songs that were not making the grade, for a variety of reasons, were dropped from the master list. I found this to be a highly efficient system for a band like ours. We were often performing every day or night of the week for long stretches of time, so even the coolest, best songs often got beat into the ground and needed shelving. The constant infusion of new tunes made the next performance less mundane and more challenging. The new songs were often played twice, once in the first set, and again later in the performance so we could gauge their effectiveness and get some needed 'reps'. The songs are divided into categories by who sang them. The songwriter or the band that had the most popular version of the tune is listed next to the title. |
