Saint Teresa's Boys’ Choir Favorite Story
From: Monsignor Leo F. McCarthy

It was Thursday May 24, a few days before our first Spring Concert in 1962. I had received permission to use the big grand piano which by the way, was always guarded by a custom made case under lock and key. It was absolutely beautiful and care was taken to avoid even the slightest scratch.

The choir practice was set for 6:30 PM. The Savios' began to gather.Being the angels that they were, it demanded a close eye to keep them in order. I had asked about ten fathers to come and help carefully take the piano off the stage so I could organize the troops for dress rehearsal.

There were four or five of the fathers were in the Gym. I went out for a few minutes, by the Gym's Outside door, to see if more were coming. With a sudden loud crash, boom and a bang, I rushed back inside. The fathers present decided that they could take that beautiful big grand, which weighed at least a couple thousand pounds, off the stage by themselves. Needless to say, it rolled off easy with a bang as it smashed onto the gym floor breaking one leg, two peddles and completely threw the piano out of tune. I thought it was ruined for good. That was not all however, for the brand new thirty thousand dollar gym floor had at least three serious gauges in front of the stage.
