stunning background vocals and catchy infectious hooks. The British Invasion? Forget it. No band, anywhere, could touch this band.

And I was on my way to see them in concert. It did not get any better than this.

Accompanying me to this show of shows was one of my best friends at St.Teresa's School in South Buffalo, and fellow-first time concert goer, Gilles Dionne. 'Gill' was a French Canadian kid had who played youth hockey all his young life and possessed a real adventurous spirit and a great sense of humor. As we wandered about looking for our seats and marveling at the huge crowd that had gathered in front of the "Stars" dressing room to the side of the stage, Gill persuaded me to go to the very opposite end of the Aud
so he could show me the hockey dressing room he and his teammates had used
during one glorious playoff season. With at least 30 minutes to blow before show
time, I agreed. We then set off for what seemed to be the most remote and distant
section of the old Aud.

Up stairs and down escalators through different colored levels and into the
bowels of this huge old building, where only janitors and service people
dared trek, we scurried. Along the way Gill described the details of the
great playoff game and the honor of playing in such an important
building as this. Even the dressing room, he declared, was used by
real professional hockey players. Poor Gill I thought. How can he
think of hockey on a night like this? And besides...
